FLOWER TEXTILE

THESE, ARE THE FLOWERS YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ME.

The Netherlands is known for the ornamental cultivation of cut-flowers

worldwide. But most people don’t give much thought to the number of flowers thrown into the garbage without even being shown for sale.

Fashion is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world. We produce fabrics like cotton to make our clothes ‘natural’. Producing cotton is a harmful process in which water consumption and CO2 pollution play a major role. But why don’t we produce our textiles from a different natural source? For instance, FLOWERS?

This project investigates how these flowers do not have to be wasted but can become raw material for a new textile.

Flower textile brings a solution for a part of the pollution within the fashion industry. And gives purpose to the flowers that used to be thrown away. It is entirely from Dutch soil and 100% biodegradable.
